JOB DESCRIPTION
The Technical Project Manager is responsible for delivering successful technical system implementations and improvements; driving organizational efficiency and achieving strategic business objectives through effective project management. The incumbent will facilitate planning, coordination, and execution of project deliverables as directed by WGD Leadership and as outlined in project agreements. Under the direction of Director, Project Management, the Technical Project Manager will utilize their technical knowledge and skills to coordinate various team members and stakeholders in the successful delivery of system integration requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop a comprehensive project plan, including resource allocation, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, business analysts, and technical teams to define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and timelines.
- Lead project teams in executing tasks according to the project plan.
- Monitor progress, identify and address potential issues, and ensure adherence to project schedules and quality standards.
- Maintain clear and regular communication with project stakeholders, team members, and management.
- Provide updates on project status, risks, and changes, and ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
- Oversee project budgets and resource allocation.
- Coordinate and motivate cross-functional project teams, including developers, engineers, analysts, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, progress reports, meeting minutes, and any relevant documentation for audits and compliance purposes.
- Ensure that systems projects meet high-quality standards and adhere to industry best practices.
- Orchestrate testing and validation to verify system functionality and performance.
- Identify opportunities for efficiency and effectiveness within project management and system development methodologies.
GENERAL DUTIES
- Ongoing learning of industry trends and changes in technology to ensure that project delivery method is current and relevant to client needs.
- Continuous review of project timelines related to systems integration, engineering, and cyber security (technical and non-technical).
- Manage multiple projects and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Develop working knowledge of information system standards such as American Public Transportation Association (APTA), US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), etc.
- Other position relevant duties as assigned by WGD Leadership to support project operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Five (5+) years technical project management experience including planning, execution, and handover of completed projects to clients.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects on projected timeline budgetary allowances.
- In-depth experience in project management methodologies, and ability to adapt method to achieve project success.
- Strong leadership and team management skills that motivate, mentor, and guide team members to achieve project objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively problem-solve using critical thinking and contingency planning.
- Professional command of the English language in technical writing both spoken and written in all communications and presentation settings.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to translate complex technical information into easy-to-understand language.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster collaborative working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and clients.
- Desire to take initiative and anticipate project requirements on a pro-active basis.
- Sound knowledge of MS Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively as required.
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
- Four (4+) year Bachelor’s degree in project management, engineering, business administration, commerce or combination of skills and experience.
- Valid PMP certification is required.
- Possession or in pursuit of P.Eng designation for Ontario, Alberta or British Columbia is considered an asset.
- Experience with Smartsheet is an asset.
- Experience with Microsoft Project is an asset.
