JOB DESCRIPTION
The Data BI (Business Intelligence) Software Developer is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, extraction, and maintenance of BI databases and related tools. Utilizing their expertise in scripting, automation and AI tools, they will create scalable and secure business system infrastructures that execute requirements management and data management protocols. Under the direction of the Director, Systems Design and Delivery, the Data BI Software Developer will implement and maintain data extraction procedures and support internal/external stakeholders in the creation of data analytics and reporting tools.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop software for data extraction from textural documents using scripting and AI tools
- Build production-ready AI applications using OpenAI APIs, or similar with an emphasis on context engineering, scalable backend systems, and modern cloud architectures.
- Operate information retrieval systems to research and extract records according to established guidelines in response to requests
- Write, test, and maintain scripts for stored procedures, triggers, and automation tasks to improve database performance and streamline operations.
- Review tools for data extraction, systems engineering requirements management and model based systems engineering and provide recommendations.
- Implement selected tools, maintain documentation, and provide ongoing training for internal and external stakeholders.
- Conduct tests to ensure the reliability, accuracy, and functionality of system changes and enhancements
General duties to include:
- Coordinate with cross-functional project teams, including engineers, analysts, and other stakeholders to identify document control /requirements management objectives.
- Provide training for internal and external stakeholders on document control and requirements management protocols.
- Ongoing learning of industry trends and changes in technology to ensure that project delivery method is current and relevant to client needs.
- Develop working knowledge of systems engineering (INCOSE) standards such as American Public Transportation Association (APTA), US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST,) and European standards such as EN50126, EN50128
- Other position relevant duties as assigned by WGD Leadership to support project operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two (2+) years of relevant experience in analytics, reporting, business intelligence, software development or related fields.
- One (1+) years of experience managing GitHub or similar web-based database repositories.
- Expertise with implementation and administration of requirements management software is considered an asset.
- Experience with prompt development, AI Tools context engineering, experience with OpenAi or similar API’s.
- Experience with programming languages and scripting such as Python ecosystem, Javascript, and React
- Strong experience with serverless architecture, such as: AWS Lambda, API Gateway, S3, Azure Functions, Blob Storage, Azure OpenAI
- Knowledge of software development environments such as Cursor is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify insights, and support business decision-making.
- Skilled in troubleshooting, self-starter, highly motivated, and can lead projects with multiple stakeholders
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly, interact with management and business application owners to communicate status and collect requirements.
- Foundational understanding of data governance, security, and compliance standards.
- Strong written and verbal English language communications skills are required.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional and matrixed environments.
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION:
- Four (4+) year bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, software development or combination of skills and experience in a related quantitative field.
