JOB DESCRIPTION

The Engineering Analyst I, RAMS is responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety of systems and components throughout their lifecycle. The incumbent will analyze system performance, conduct risk assessments, and implement effective design practices to enhance system reliability and safety for various projects under the WGD Consulting umbrella. In collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, the incumbent will incorporate RAMS principles into the project development process and contribute to the overall quality and functionality of integrated systems. Under the direction of the Director Engineering; the Engineering Analyst I will contribute to the validation of technical systems for project delivery. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct reliability assessments using statistical methods and modeling techniques, such as Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA).
  • Conduct safety assessments using practice guidelines, such as Preliminary Hazard Analyses (PHA), System Hazard Analyses (SHA), Interface Hazard Analyses (IHA), and Operational and Support Hazard Analyses (O&SHA), and hazard log tracking.
  • Develop and maintain RAM data to support design improvements for electronic systems.
  • Develop and execute RAM and Safety plans.
  • Establish strategies to enhance system availability through redundancy and failover mechanisms.
  • Monitor system performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop maintenance strategies and plans to maximize system uptime.
  • Define and conduct maintenance tasks to ensure effective system operation.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to improve equipment maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation related to RAMS activities, including reports and presentations.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders and management.
  • Work closely with design, development, and quality teams to integrate RAMS principles in new products.
  • Provide training and guidance on RAMS methodologies to engineering teams; foster sharing of best practices across the organization
  • Participate in project meetings and provide RAMS updates and insights.
  • Ensure the delivery of systems and solutions comply with industry standards, regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Implement and maintain quality assurance processes to ensure systems meet or exceed performance, reliability, and security standards.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Review of documents related to RAMS methodologies (technical and non-technical)
  • Execute consistent communication both vertically and horizontally across the organization that fosters a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Maintain comprehensive organizational records, including any relevant documentation required for audits and compliance purposes.
  • Conduct business activities with integrity, care, and trustworthiness while maintaining compliance with internal and external guidelines.
  • Demonstrate a broad commitment to financial, social, and environmental impacts as they relate to organizational projects they support at all times.
  • Continuous review of industry trends and advancements to maintain relevant operational practices, procedures, and documentation standards.
  • Able to manage multiple projects and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Able to navigate dynamic environments requiring flexibility and adaptability to accommodate change.
  • Remain up to date on information system standards such as American Public Transportation Association (APTA), US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), European Norm (EN) / CENELEC, rail applicable standards, etc.
  • Other position relevant duties as assigned by the Engineering Analyst III or Director, Engineering.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One (1+) years’ experience in RAMS engineering or related field (e.g reliability engineering, safety engineering)
  • Experience in rail, automotive, aerospace, nuclear or major infrastructure projects is considered an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster collaborative working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and clients.
  • Professional command of the English language in both spoken and written communications and presentation settings.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively as required.
  • Familiarity with relevant technologies
  • Working knowledge of industry best practices EN/CENELEC, ISO, IEC, CSA, FTA.
  • Sound knowledge of MS Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio.
  • Experience with Item Software is an asset.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Four (4) year Bachelor’s and/or two (2) year Master’s degree in an engineering discipline such as electrical, mechanical, systems or relevant equivalent discipline.
  • Working towards P.Eng. designation in Ontario is considered an asset.
  • Working towards INCOSE ASEP/CSEP certification is considered an asset.
